A lot of folks consider the idea of a home based business in relation to their job security (or lack thereof). It seems the less job security there is, the more interest there is in starting a home-based business.
When deciding between a job and a home based business, there are obviously a lot of considerations. A home based business will not offer you a steady paycheck like a job will (at least not at first). That means you will have to support the growth of the business. Even when the home based business begins to be profitable, it may not be a steady stream of income. Only a steady paycheck can provide that.
Having said that, job security isn't what it used to be. Scorelogix keeps a Job Security Index on a month by month basis. You can see their job security index according to various criteria -- such as by location and by industry. It also discusses trends in various categories. Scorelogix requires an account which is free to set up.
If you are concerned about your job security, check Scorelogix to see how well founded your concern is. Maybe now is the time to start that home based business - while you are still working?

Hard to Find ...
Job security has become a rare find these days, regardless of the size of company. A home based business can potentially offer you a way to supplement your income while working a ''steady'' job. If things pick up you may be making enough money to quit your day job and focus exclusively on your business, but until that happens don't quit. The last thing you want is to feel the squeeze of bills piling in with no regular cash flow to stay afloat. This will quickly discourage you and may drive you to quit your HBB prematurely and back into the not so loving arms of another salaried/hourly wage job. Find a balance to work on your HBB part-time and work smart. Efficiency is key because there are only so many hours to get things done and still spend time with family, friends, and take care of other responsibilities. Don't abandon ship if results don't come immediately. That is normal. The best things in life take time to yield solid rewards. Stay the course, weather any storms that will surely come your way, and most importantly keep your eye on the prize, whatever that may be for you. All the best! G
