How many kinds of careers are there in web designing?

The age of technology has bought forth jobs that were never in existence before. With the ever increasing rise in technology we will see a lot more careers in the field of web designing.


Some of the common job titles that are in existence today include web designer, web programmers, developers, Project Managers.

Web designer:

A web designer’s job is basically one who designs the main interface of the web page. He or she is responsible for the colors, text size and type, choosing and placing appropriate pictures in the web page. The designer is the artist in front of the programmer whose job is detailed in the next section. The career involves one to be creative with colors; choosing the appropriate colors is very important. Colors generally speak of the personality of a company or an individual. Light and pleaseant colours are usually pleaseant to the eye and are usually used in places where a lot of reading is involved.

Web designers usually learn different software’s such as Dreamweaver, Microsoft FrontPage, Photoshop, Illustrator. If you want to enter the web design career as a designer than the prerequisite of the job would be that one should be fairly familiar with these programs.

Web Programmers/Developers:

Behind the artistic values of the designer lies the brainwork of a programmer or developer whose primary job is to make the website more easier to use and to provide services such as e-commerce, online payments, catalogues and sites that need to be driven with a database. Instead of using programs that use HTML they developers and programmers use programs such as PHP, ASP, Java, Perl, XML, Cold Fusion and other software’s that have artificial intelligence built into them.

Today web developers and programmers play an important part in web designing. Without them sites such as hotmail, yahoo, GOOGLE, and E-bay would seize to exist. The work that goes on in searching for the different Booleans that is entered in the search box of GOOGLE and other search engines; the authorizing of mail passwords on the various free email sites and the various process that are done behind the scenes on e-bay such as verifying credit card numbers and taking down orders. Are all made possible with the help of web programmers and developers.

Project managers

No matter how good the web designers and the developers may be you still need a person to look over it all. The person who is responsible for this position sets the deadline for the various drafts and final presentations, budgeting and handles most of the problems that come along with a project.

Project Managers ensure the client that everything is ok and that the project is going to be delivered on time. Part of the job description is also to make sure that everything is “A-Okay”.

One of the qualities that a Project Manager should have is to ensure that the three C’s are being maintained within the programmers, developers and the designers. The three C’s are Communication, Coordination and Cooperation.
